How Argyll & Bute Works: Trade Unions and the budget cuts

All councillors received a letter from Simon Macfarlane of the trade union Unison on Wednesday last week.

He wrote on behalf of all the unions the council deals with and expressed concern at the budget proposals that can be seen here and here. He says the process of looking at what areas of the council would be affected has been “hampered by secrecy”. This comes as no surprise given the appalling manner in which the council handled this.

I have written to Simon expressing my support for the bulk of what he says and have separately written to all the other trade unions officials listed at the bottom of Simon’s letter.

Simon’s letter can be read in full at this link: Joint Trade Union Paper September 2015

I am no longer a councillor with Argyll & Bute Council but given the appalling treatment I got from the senior officers and a few elected members, I plan to continue keeping an eye on what the council is doing.
